Cruising Rings: South of England Circuit

The obvious choice for the client looking for a Short Break from the hustle and bustle of London or Reading, our base on the Thames is growing a great reputation!

This slow flowing stretch of the famous river is only 60 minutes cruise from the South Oxford Canal. Our base is set within a working Boatyard and Marina, so there’s always plenty going on and lots of
expert tuition on hand.

Take the Upper Thames for a couple of days cruise to Lechlade and you’ll get the true meaning of relaxation; this idyllic Cotswold town is totally delightful, and the scenery along the way is stunning.

The centre of Oxford is only 3 hours cruising south of the base and a great choice for a City Break with your own floating accommodation!

For the more adventurous, there is a leisurely fortnight’s cruise which will take you into the heart of London and back, whilst affording ample time for a couple of days sightseeing, and a return visit or two to your favourite pub.

Remember there is an additional charge for cruising on the canals when you set off from Oxford, just call the Booking Team for details and they can advise you on costs etc.

Monkton Combe
Dundas Aqueduct, the Somerset Coal Canal

Located on the doorstep of the World Heritage City of Bath, the rural setting based at the end of the Somerset Coal Canal is fast becoming one of Anglo Welsh’s favourite start points. Only a two hour cruise takes you into the centre of Bath or a one and a half hour cruise east takes you to the historic market town of Bradford on Avon.

England’s most southerly canal links London and the Bristol Channel. This allows you to cruise through some of the country’s best loved landscapes. See the southern tip of the beautiful rolling Cotswolds as well as West Berkshire, an area of outstanding natural beauty.

Reopened only in 1990 by Her Majesty the Queen why not visit one of Britain’s most popular waterways.

• Clavertons Pumping station and American museum offers a great tour.
• Take the challenge of the Devizes flight.

Bradford on Avon

Picturesque Cotswold town

The base is set within a marina in the picturesque Cotswold town of Bradford on Avon and has cruises to suit all levels of experience and duration.
Heading westward will take you over aqueducts, through bridges and locks to the World Heritage City of Bath, a gentle day’s cruise from the base. Here you’ll find oodles of history, the Thermae Spa, along with plenty of shops and restaurants. For the more experienced cruisers a week will provide adequate time to cruise through Bath and onto Bristol, traveling though countryside along the River Avon.
Head east and on a short break you’ll reach the base of the Caen Hill flight of 29 locks which rise over 235ft. If you have a little more time on your hands continue on up the flight of locks to
Devizes, a traditional market town and only a short journey to the Avebury Stones.

City of Bath
Elegant Bath, the River Avon, Kennet & Avon Canal

Cruising from the heart of the World Heritage City of Bath, the base has access to the delights of the Kennet & Avon Canal and the River Avon.

Set off westward, and literally 5 minutes cruising will take you to Visitors Moorings in the very heart of the city. Why not take time out to soak up all the delights of the history and culture of Bath? The waterfront is particularly great for the family.

The City of Bristol is westward from the base along the River Avon, with @ Bristol, Bristol Zoo, SS Great Britain, plus a whole host of cultural delights -and within easy reach of the base on a
one-week break.

Head eastward and the options are endless. Bradford on Avon (a great weekend cruise), The Caen Hill Locks, The Vale of the White Horse and Devizes and back, is a very popular midweek break for experienced cruisers. Reading offers a fabulous cruise over a fortnight.

Bath is a fantastic base growing all the more popular with customers looking for ‘alternative’ accommodation!!
