Along with a stop at a canalside pub or a picnic afloat, spending time out on the water with family can make the perfect way to treat mum this Mother’s Day.
We offer day boat hire from several of our bases across England and Wales, meaning a relaxing day out is never too far away. For as little as £99 for the day, you can stop-off for a shop in Nantwich from our base in Bunbury, enjoy a pub lunch a short cruise away from Great Haywood, take in the tranquil landscapes of the Forest of Arden departing from Tardebigge and much, much more.
After booking, you’ll receive a handy leaflet which includes route guidance and on arrival, you’ll receive a full-handover and tuition from our knowledgeable staff.
Cruise through the Countryside from Bunbury
You can reach Nantwich on a day afloat from our canal boat rental base in Bunbury on the Shropshire Union Canal near Tarporley. The two-hour journey takes you through six peaceful miles of countryside, past the canalside Barbridge Inn and across the impressive Grade II listed Nantwich Aqueduct with panoramic views across the town. There are no locks along the way, making it a leisurely day, perfect for narrowboat novices.
Stop-off for a Pub Lunch on a Journey Starting in Great Haywood
On a day out from Great Haywood; you can cruise to the historic market town of Rugeley. On just a four-mile journey, you will pass through two locks and encounter the National Trust’s Shugborough Estate and Cannock Chase Forest- a designated area of outstanding beauty. Mooring up at bridge 68, you can either explore the town or choose to turn back and go for a canalside pub lunch at The Wolseley Arms.
Take in the Beautiful Scenery from Tardebigge
From our base at Tardebigge you can cruise along the Worcester and Birmingham Canal to Kings Norton Junction. The 8-mile journey is lock-free and takes around two and a half hours with views of the Forest of Arden included! There are also two canal tunnels along the way, one of which is one of the longest in the country. If the calming atmosphere and views isn’t enough to entice you, there’s also a good selection of pubs to stop at; you could try The Crown, The Weighbridge or the Hopwood House.
Enjoy a Nature-Filled Journey from Whixall
If you think mum would prefer a quiet day out in the countryside, Whixall may be the perfect location. After cruising through two lift bridges, you can marvel at rare plants and wetland birds, just remember to keep an eye on the time and return the boat by 4pm!
Unwind on a Gentle Cruise from Wootton Wawen
Enjoy a relaxing cruise to Wilmcote from our base in Wootton Wawen; you’ll get the chance to test out your lock skills on the “Odd Lock” and glide over the 28ft high Edstone Aqueduct, whilst taking in some beautiful countryside scenery. You’ll also get the chance to see some canalside wildlife, receiving visits from hungry ducklings and swans.
Cruise Across Thomas Telford’s World-Famous Aqueduct from Trevor
For some truly spectacular views, float across ‘The Stream in the Sky’ from our hire base at Trevor on the Llangollen Canal in North Wales, it’s just a stone’s throw away from The World Heritage Status Pontcysyllte Aqueduct. The aqueduct stands at 38 metres high and 305 metres across the Dee Valley. For anyone not interested in heights, you can always head west of the base to the idyllic Welsh village of Llangollen. Here you can find The Steam Railway, as well as The Riverside Park and numerous places to enjoy an afternoon tea with mum.

If you don’t have quite enough time for a full day out on the waterways, our trip boat “Little Star” will be operating skippered cruises across the UNESCO World Heritage Status Pontcysyllte Aqueduct. “Little Star” trips will depart at 11am, 12 noon, 1.30pm and 2.30pm on Saturday 18 and Sunday 19 March.
