30 miles of the Llangollen Canal are still open
With most of the Llangollen Canal still open, the majority of our short break and week-long routes on the Llangollen Canal from Trevor and Whixall are still available for cruising in 2026.
You can still access the entire 11-mile section of the Llangollen Canal designated a UNESCO World Heritage site, including the Pontcysyllte Aqueduct. The 8-mile navigable section of the Mongomery Canal from Frankton Junction to Crickheath is also still accessible from both Trevor and Whixall.
Following the breach on the Llangollen Canal at Whitchurch in December, both the canal and towpath are closed between Bridge 31A Whitchurch Bypass Bridge and Lock 6 Grindley Brook Lock. This is close to the Hurleston Junction end of the Llangollen Canal. The Canal & River Trust is currently planning the engineering works needed to repair the breach as soon as possible.
