World-famous destinations include UNESCO World Heritage Bath, Shakespeare’s Stratford, Leeds and Chester. Once there, you can moor up and use your floating holiday home as a base to explore these vibrant waterside destinations.
Navigate to the ancient City of Chester on the Shropshire Union Canal
On a short break from Bunbury on the Shropshire Union Canal, you can cruise to the ancient city of Chester and back. The journey takes you through the Cheshire countryside past Beeston Castle, Tattenhall and Christleton. When you reach Chester, you can moor up close to Chester Cathedral to explore the city’s attractions, including the Roman city walls and Chester Rows shops.
The journey from Bunbury to Chester and back travels 12 miles, passes through 18 locks (9 each way) and takes around 14 hours.
Visit Georgian Bath on the Kennet & Avon Canal
On a short break from Bradford on Avon, you can cruise along the Kennet & Avon Canal to the UNESCO World Heritage City of Bath and back. At Sydney Gardens you can moor up and take a 15-minute walk into Bath city centre to explore Bath’s many attractions, including the Roman Baths and Theatre Royal.
The journey from Bradford on Avon to Bath and back travels 18 miles, passes through 2 locks (one each way) and takes around 8 hours.
Travel to Shakespeare’s Stratford on the Stratford Canal
On a 4-night break from Wootton Wawen, you can cruise along the Stratford Canal to Stratford-upon-Avon. The journey takes you through the Warwickshire countryside and past the village of Wilmcote. When you arrive in Stratford, you can moor up in Bancroft Basin, next to the Swan Theatre and take time to explore the ancient town’s many attractions, including Shakespeare’s Birthplace.
The journey from Wootton Wawen to Stratford-upon-Avon and back travels 14 miles, passes through 34 locks (17 each way) and takes around 11 hours.
Cruise to Leeds on the Leeds & Liverpool Canal
On a week-long break from Silsden, you can cruise along the Leeds & Liverpool to Leeds and back. The journey will take you through the famous Bingley Five Rise locks, UNESCO World Heritage Saltaire and Apperley Bridge. When you arrive in Leeds, you can moor up in the centre of the city in Leeds Dock. Then use your floating holiday home as a base to explore the city’s attractions, including the waterside Royal Armouries Museum.
The journey from Silsden to Leeds and back travels 44 miles, passing through 54 locks (27 each way) and takes around 32 hours.
Travel round the Birmingham Mini-Ring
On a week-long break from Wootton Wawen, you can complete the Birmingham Mini-Ring circuit. With more canals than Venice, visiting Birmingham by canal boat is one of the best ways to explore this vibrant city. You’ll travel along sections of the Stratford, Grand Union, Birmingham & Fazeley and Worcester & Birmingham Canals. And you can moor up in Gas Street Basin to explore Brindleyplace, the Jewellery Quarter and other city centre attractions.
Travelling round the Birmingham Mini-Ring from Wootton Wawen will take you along 48 miles of canals, through 84 locks and it will take around 33 hours.
