Glide across ‘The Stream in the Sky’ and experience incredible views

Our canal boat hire base at Trevor on the Llangollen Canal in North Wales, it’s less than 10 minutes by water to the incredible UNESCO World Heritage Status Pontcysyllte Aqueduct.

Standing 38 metres high above the Dee Valley, the Pontcysyllte Aqueduct, is truly one of the wonders of the waterways. After travelling across the Aqueduct aboard one of our self-drive day boats, you can continue on to Chirk to enjoy lunch at the Poacher’s Pocket. This gentle five-mile journey with no locks, also takes you across Chirk Aqueduct and through Whitehouse and Chirk tunnels.

Or head to the historic market town of Llangollen, nestled in the Berwyn Mountains.  The journey to Llangollen takes around two-and-a-half hours and there are no locks.

General information

Day boats at Trevor We have three day boats for hire at Trevor: Jacob, Daniel and Lotty.

Passenger numbers Maximum 10 passengers (including infants and pets).

Pets You can bring dogs but they each count as a passenger.

What’s onboard? Our self-drive day boats have indoor and outdoor seating, a toilet, gas hob and a fridge or electric cool box. Buoyancy aids are also available on request.

Your day out boating Check in at 9am and provide a security deposit (£100 per boat). Return at 4pm March to October. 3pm return over the winter months.

Tuition is included in our day boat hire. We’ll ask you to complete a handover certificate before releasing the boat).

Prices £120 per day Monday to Friday. £199 on weekends and bank holidays.

Car parking & damage waiver is included.

FAQs

Do I need a licence to drive a canal boat?

You don’t need a licence to steer a canal boat and it’s easy to learn how to operate a boat.  When you arrive at one of our boat yards, one of our experienced instructors will guide you through everything you need to know.

 

What time can I collect the boat?

You can check in at 9am and return the boat by 4pm March to October. By 3pm over the winter months.

 

Can I bring my dog?

Yes, you can bring up to three well-behaved dogs but they count as passengers (maximum 10 passengers are allowed per boat).
